Onyx LeShelle's Maitreya is one of my favorite stores in the metaverse! While her clothes, hair and poses are adorable, what really made her famous are her shoes. Her textures are just about the most realistic and sumptuous around. She makes glossy patents, buttery leathers, soft velvets, and luscious suedes. Of course, the styles and colors are up-to-the-minute as well, making shoe shopping at Maitreya positively addictive!

In my picture, I'm wearing Maitreya's Tunic dress, Aimee hair, and Verve shoes; Marlys' Poos's Perfume jewelry; and Minnu Model Skins' skin.

This episode of Going Broke, we sat down with Launa Fauna. Not only is she the designer behind LF Fashions -- the store with the best jeans in Second Life, she's also the skin artist behind Chai. And, as if that weren't enough, she's also a lingerie designer, along with Nephilane Protagonist, who puts out a yearly Valentine's line called Love Lace. Sit back and enjoy the interview!

When Daphne passed me a note from listener Demelza Beaumont recommending Pochette, I was curious. Ms. Beaumont included a picture of herself in a soft fall outfit that I would kill for in real life (okay, I wouldn't kill for it, I'd just shop for it). I loved the soft wool skirt in the picture, and it turns out it was from Pochette. So, I visited Pochette the next day. Several hundred lindens later, I had a gorgeous new fall wardrobe with feminine skirts, tailored jackets, and gorgeous scarves. Sure, I'm now broke, but it was well worth it! Thanks, Demelza!

I’m wearing Pochette’s Diagonal Pleat skirt, Knit jacket, Nep Knit socks (freebie!), and Simple muffler. So cute and cozy! When I tp’d in, I almost started hyper-ventillating from the cute! I’m also wearing Olive & Violet’s Red Paisley shoulder bag from Red Rabbit Couture; Shiny Things‘ Flare oxfords; Studio Sidhe’s Thai Silk cami; ETD’s Bonita hair; Mad About’s Diamond Dewdrop earrings; Tete a Pied’s Vin skin; and Lemon’s Oh Marie shape.

Siyu Suen's Illusions is THE place to visit when you need a mask. Ms. Suen, a self-described rabid perfectionist, makes all of her products with love. Her affection for her designs shows in even the smallest eye-patch.

A builder, Ms. Suen started making masks last November because she didn't believe that available masks were up to her high standards. Eventually, she began producing hats and jewelry. Soon, we should be seeing Illusions clothing with feathers by Jen Shikami!

One of her most recent projects, the Gracile hat, was featured in Nicky Ree's ads for her fabulous Swan Lake. Siyu just happened to run across Bonnie Trivizas' real life swan hat from her feather business, Fowl Play. Ms. Trivizas gave Siyu permission to interpret her design in Second Life, and an instant classic was born.

Be sure to check out the Gracile hat at Illusions. Also, visit the new Deviant Kitties sim which Siyu built!

Today, we had the pleasure of speaking with Elikapeka Tiramisu. As the designer behind ETD, Elika designs hair, clothing, accessories, and shoes. However, being one of the biggest hair vendors in Second Life isn't enough for Ms. Tiramisu. She shared with us that now she's working on designing skins!

If she's half as meticulous about her skins as she is about her hair, we're in for quite a treat. For now, Elika revealed to us that she's still in the early stages of developing her skins as you'll hear on the show. Though she's also working on making her ETD Isle store a more efficient place to shop.

As frequent ETD shoppers ourselves, Daphne and I have learned first-hand that Elika is very concerned about keeping her customers happy. We're confident saying that whatever Elika does next, it will be worth waiting for!

Aparently, Akela Talamasca of SLInsider Podcast thought that he could get back at us for taking over his podcast a couple of months ago. He sent over his cohorts, Haver Cole and Saeya Nyanda, co-founders of Pwned Magazine to see if the ladies could take over our podcast. Well, Mr. Talamasca's evil plan backfired right in his furry face.

Instead of Haver and Saeya taking over Going Broke, they chose to tell us about their ventures in SL. Ms. Cole, um, er, Doctor Cole, is SL's finest plastic surgeon, designing shapes exclusively for Lemon. I have been wearing Lemon's Oh Marie shape (all of the shapes are named for Louis Prima songs!) for several weeks and I can't get over the cuteness of the soft smile. Ms. Nyanda (a member of SL's puppet community) is the designer behind Kyoot Army, a new boutique that's taking the grid by storm. In addition to Kyoot Army, Saeya also works for Linxster, working on Carnival Isle!

So, Akela, now you have even more tornados!

We've all seen those gorgeous, ethereal porcelain skinned dollies drifting through SL. Some of them wear Edwardian clothes, some wear Victorian garb. Several of them dress like they just stepped out of a fairy tale. Many look like they're hiding from Bolsheviks during the Russian revolution. Modern dollies tend to dress like Gothic Lolitas. But what do all of them have in common? Silver Rose Designs on the Shengri La sim (http://www.slurl.com/secondlife/Shengri%20La/119/41/25). Yuriko Muromachi makes some of the most gorgeous dresses (and men's suits) you could ever hope to see! If you're looking for a darling dress that looks like it could be made of frosting and sugar flowers, come to Silver Rose Designs.

SL Name: Etain Peregrine [Charissa Korvin is modeling Etain's design Erebus, above]

Where from in RL: Texas currently live in California

RL line of work: SL is my RL baby!

Time in SL: um, Been on since late 2003, if that's what you are asking, also I am almost constantly on but not always on as Etainnnn....

What do you design/make? Boots, outfits to go with said boots, fetish gear of all sorts, occasionally furniture but not often. We have plans to expand into bold new areas soon so look for that ...

if pressed... silks, gorean equipment, weapons and items geared to support dark rp areas of SL

How long have you done this? Seriously for about a year, unseriously for about another year. I hope to do it for quite some time to come.

Why did you start?

There are people who tell you they started because they were making things for themselves and then people asked to buy them so they selflessly opened a store to give out the things the public was demanding out of of a noble sense of altruism.

I'm not one of those people. I started the store because Linden Labs cut my stipend, so i had the find a way to get more lindens. I wasn't willing to buy too many lindens so I had to start up a store. My first products were whatever was laying around in my inventory that I thought I could reasonably pawn off on some poor sucker. And the rest is history.

How has your product evolved?
Its been a trial and error process. I originally started doing furniture but I quickly figured out it just doesn't sell well. Or else my furniture was just really bad. or a combination of the two. On a whim I tried to do some boots. I had always been curiou sabout how the invisible prims worked so it was more to satisfy my curiosity. They sold better than the rest of my stuff put together so again I quickly figured out this was the way to go. I continue to experiment and try to go in new directions with each product release. Hopefully I have achieved that. I never want to get stale.

Where do you see your SL work going?
See above.

This is something I have struggled with for a long time. What is the endgame for SL businesses? I'm hesitant to keep all my eggs in one basket in just SL. I am interested in expanding to other worlds like SL, the only problem being nothing is out yet that competes with it. However if there was I would be there in a heartbeat. I'm interested in getting into more and more scripting and offering more functionality with my products, and expanding into new markets and demographics.

What skills have you mastered during your time in SL?
IM bar juggling, that's a handy skill. I think I'm pretty good at manipulating prims.

What skills would you like to master?
I really want to get better with textures. Mine are at best adequate, but don't come near the greats in SL texturing. I want to be among the best at every aspect of Dark Eden. I want to continue to improve until I deliver the top quality to my customers. They deserve my best.

Where can people go to see and buy your work?

Go to Indigo!

Can you give us a price range?
I try to keep it within the range of newbies. 200 to 300 for a full set and I usually offer pieces for sale separately for 25L to 150L or so depending on the piece.

Whos' work do you admire?
I have always admired Bare Rose, June is just a phenomenon. Lately her sculptie work and her textures have gone off the charts in quality.

I also admire the girls at Curious and Deviant Kitties, Gritty Kitty, Sinistyle. I love the sort of grunge kitty look that a few designers are mastering.. I wish I could do it myself but its just not quite my style. A couple of hot japanese designers I always keep an eye on is Kru and Tohru. both their work is great but a little pricey for me. Old school when I was starting out I had a huge huge huge thing for Nomine and I still check her place at least once a week. Her old stuff still maintains its quality even against brand new releases and shes very affordable so new people coming in try out Nomine, its fantabulous.

Do you consider anyone to be a major influence?
Well outside of SL probably the single greatest influence would be Michael Manning, an american fetish artist and author. You can check out his astounding work at www.thespidergarden.net. Anime is also a huge influence on me though I'm not sure its as obvious in my designs.

Who would you like us to feature?
I'd love to see more on the grungey kitty types, their work is so amazing and detailed and vibrant. Its also a look I think is fairly unique to SL, or maybe I'm just too sheltered fashionwise. Gritty Kitty, Sinistyle, anyone from the Block or Koreshan Point. Wow. they blow me away every time I go through there. Bastards.

An Interview with Zoe Llewelyn of Temenos:

What do you design/make? I am rather eccentric...I do it all, or rather try to. To varying degrees of success or suckage. I started out making cyberpunk armour and accessories just for fun, then turned to Neko skins, clothing, boots, and now I have like 5 or 6 brand names and more varying styles and work than I know what to do with. My latest venture is back to my personal roots in gothic wear clothing and skins. I own Boneflower Designs, Broken, Jungle Voodoo, Cyberpunk Apocalypse, The Heart of a Doll, and a few others. :3

How long have you done this? I have been doing this sort of work professionally for about 6 years, though I only started a business in Second Life after quiting my previous job working on a MMORPG about two years ago.

Why did you start? I have always been an artist, like my mother, and my grandfather. Growing up it was one of my main forms of expression, along with my writing. I am deaf, so my art was a major form of getting the inner me out to the world in pictures instead of with words. I worked corporate design and marketing for years before I took a chance and tried for a job with a game company. It was great to marry my love of art with my love of video games. later after finding SL it was a dream come true. I could work from home, be my own boss, and still what I love best in an environment less removed from my customers than traditional game design.

How has your product evolved? I am always growing and evolving I hope. In many ways, SL has challenged my skills more than any work I have done before. I have freedom here to do what I feel inspired to do, and that has let me explore myself in a way the corporate world didn't. I continue to learn new tricks and methods every day, and I hope that process never stops for me. SL has also challenged me to grow in areas not my strong place, such as scripting for my products. I think that is the area I have grown the most in.

Where do you see your SL work going? I have so many ideas and plans...I love doing new things, starting new styles and developing new brands as they come to me. I expect I will continue to go wherever the inspiration takes me. Right now I need to finish the design of three new sims I am working on so I can expand some of my stores and also start a coupl new ideas I have. From there, who knows where I may go. :3

What skills have you mastered during your time in SL? None. I am master of nothing. Just a student learning her way as best she can. I hope I will never master anything in life because that would mean i am done growing.

What skills would you like to master? I would however like to become better than I am and improve more in scripting and animations. Now that sculpted prims are here, i also plan to go back to working on my modeling skills as well.

Where can people go to see and buy your work? My main store is currently at Temenos, though it will be moving to a larger space soon on its new sister island.

Can you give us a price range? Wow...too many products to do anything accurate there. I have stuff from freebies to 1400L for skin sets and doll avatars, and every price in between. I try to be reasonable and modestly priced and do volume as my business model.

Whose work do you admire? That is a list too long to write down here. Some of my personal favorites whose work I not only admire and love but wear daily include Canimal Zephyr and Starley Thereian, Hevan Lament, Skanks'R'Us and Sweetedge, Feri Beckenbauer, Gritty Kitty by Noam, Wintermoon, Kin Kieko, Pixel Dolls, Torrid Midnight, Wraith Unsung, and so many more I feel so bad about not mentioning by name. Its such a horribly long list.

Do you consider anyone to be a major influence? Well, I feel everyone is always inspired and influenced in many ways by everything they see and everyone they meet. We are an accumulation of our exposures and experiences. But someone I personally admire greatly and who has constantly been an inspiration to me to push myself and gorw better has been Zabitan Assia of ::FORM::...he is a god among mortals to me and I think I own almost everything he makes.

Who would you like us to feature? Well, I would be biased on that I suppose. many of my closest friends here who have stood by me through some rough times are designers as well, and naturally I feel they deserve to be noticed. Sumire Mochi of Tweet has gotten some coverage, but I feel she is still undernoticed for the uniqueness and spontanious style she creates. She is a dear friend and has been my closest confidant and supporter as well. Also any of the people from the list above are more than worthy. I am just not sure how I managed to make my way onto someone's list for this interview...that remains a mystery to me.

On Tamara, left: hair -- Flirt by Naughty; Skin, ears and tail -- Ebony striped Neko, Jungle Voodoo by Zoe Llewelyn; Outfit -- Boneflower Leather Corset and Mini Set by Zoe Llewelyn; Boots: Boneflower Kitty Pirate Laced Biker Boots by Zoe Llewelyn.

On Daphne, right: hair -- Carrie by Celestial Studios; Skin -- Whispers of Night Spectral Female Blood Dusk Slayer by Zoe Llewelyn; Ears, tail and collar -- White Mouse Girl Avatar, Jungle Voodoo by Zoe Llewelyn; Corset -- Cross Corset, Broken by Zoe Llewelyn; Skirt -- Armide, Material Squirrel.

Wow! It's sure a busy time for Paeoti Pomeray. In addition to opening a whole new sim ( http://slurl.com/secondlife/Isle%20of%20Nymphetamine/167/154/26/ ) and designing some hot new clothes, Miss Paeoti has decided to hold a model search contest!

Why she'd ever decide to let her current curvaceous model-self retire, we'll never know. But it's a great opportunity for the rest of us! Go on down to her new main location on the Isle of Nymphetamine for details. The deadline for entering the contest is May 31, 2007 at 6 p.m. SLT! If you want more information, go to her store and click on the big sign just inside the door.

So, put on your hottest Nymphetamine's clothes and give it your all. There are some hot prizes to be won. And even if you don't win, it's a great reason to purchase some more hot Nymphetamine's fashions!

By the way, Paeoti dropped some goodies on us! She gave us each a Godiva Deco Dress (check out the picture here) which is one of the hottest designs we've seen in a while. We can't figure out why she sells it for just $500L in her store! She also gave us each a beautiful Dark Swan Boat (also selling for a mere $500L in her store).

Thanks, Pae, and good luck, Ladies!

Well, this is the end of an era. Tomorrow, the new Isle of Nymphetamine opens for Paeoti Pomeray's Nymphetamine's boutique. Don't get me wrong, I'm excited about the new sim with a bigger store and some hot new designs! But I'll miss the store in The Siren's Grotto, so I had to visit one last time.

Anyway, the grand opening of her new sim is tomorrow night, Thursday, May 10 at 7 pm, SLT at http://slurl.com/secondlife/Isle%20of%20Nymphetamine/138/154/24/ . Check it out!
