We began Episode Six of Going Broke with Daphne and Tamara with our
interview of Lucas ("Luck") Lameth. Lucas brings what he sees on the
streets of New York City to life in his creations. In his store, Earthtones (http://slurl.com/secondlife/Bushido%20Bay/76/236/24), you'll find everything from casual, down-to-earth wooden bangles to exquisite formal jewelry that will draw all eyes to you! No matter what you choose, we're sure that you will treasure your Earthtones jewels the rest of your Second Life! Don't forget to check out Lucas' designs for the male avie! However, don't be jealous if your guy's getting more admiring glances, it's the Earthtones jewelry, for sure! After visiting Earthtones, we swung by Caroline's on the Lo Lo sim (http://slurl.com/secondlife/Lo%20Lo/128/196/23); Simply Spoiled in Mechozilla (http://slurl.com/secondlife/Mechozilla/102/143/44); Mad About in Satang (http://slurl.com/secondlife/Satang/117/233/27); and Ricx's in Nepessing (http://slurl.com/secondlife/Nepessing/64/97/125). Check out our reviews below and see pictures of our new Avatar of Style, Dakota Buck! Of course, there are so many more jewelry stores in Second Life, one show wasn't enough to cover all of our favorites! Don't despair if we didn't hit your favorite store, we're going to do another jewelry show in the future! Tue, 24 July 2007 I have been trying since yesterday to get Episode 6 out for your listening pleasure. While it appears on the website for some reason, yet unknown, the feed from Libsyn to the podcatcher of your choice isn't working. If you need your Going Broke fix or want to find a jewelry store to buy something for yourself, a loved one or your favorite over-stressed podcast host, you can use the player on the website. If you need something for your MP3 player here are a few recommendations: SL Under The Radar: http://www.slundertheradar.com Radar has a different sense of humor and he has a hard time keeping his guests on topic but it's an enjoyable show and if you listen to some of his older episodes you will also get your Daphne and Tamara fix The Traveling Avatar's Quick and Dirty Tips for a Better Second Life: http:/www.qdnow.com Will is on a mission to help you find the best in SL and with his short, around 5 minutes each, podcast you can get your tips and be on your way. I think it will take you all of 2 hours to listen to every show he has put out to date. And if you want to hear Daphne, and sometimes Tamara, use the creative part of their brains go over to http://podcasting.isfullofcrap.com and listen to the 100 Word Story Weekly Challenge. I often send in a submission and Tamara does on occasion if the topic moves her. Also it's hosted by her partner Crap Mariner, but he goes by another name on the show. If you have an extra minute and a half to listen to something creative and most of the time witty subscribe to 100 Word Stories, I listen in the morning and it starts my day off with a smile. Hopefully Libsyn will have our feed working soon, we already have Episode 7 planned out, but if you have show ideas please e-mail me or Tamara at the links on the right. Thanks for your patience, Daphne Category: general -- posted at: 7:30 AM Comments[2] |
Mon, 23 July 2007 Model/designer or designer/model? No matter how you describe
her, Dakota Buck is hot with a capital "O," as in "OMG! Where did she
get that outfit?" Perhaps she got it in Second Life's newest
cutting-edge boutique? Perhaps it's her newest design? Savvy? Category: Avatars of Style -- posted at: 6:33 AM Comments[0] |
Mon, 23 July 2007 There's nothing we hate more than seeing the jewelry on every other avie out there. That's why we go to Ricx Curie's RICX Jewelry in Nepessing (http://slurl.com/secondlife/Nepessing/64/97/125). Visit RICX limited edition vault in back for something out of the ordinary. If you really want to be sure your jewels are one-of-a-kind, Ricx does custom work and engraving! Category: Featured Designer/Store -- posted at: 12:29 AM Comments[0] |
Mon, 23 July 2007 We've all had days where we couldn't decide between fun & frivolous and classic. When you're having one of those days, stop in at Mad About in Satang (http://slurl.com/secondlife/Satang/117/233/27) for Angelina Burali's designs. Rack up her Get a Cue set for billiards-inspired style. Or check out her diamond jewelry for a more traditional look. Whatever you do, don't miss her fire bead jewelry! Wed, 4 July 2007 In Episode 5 of Going Broke with Daphne and Tamara, we explore the dark side of shopping in Second Life, and we don't mean when your purchase doesn't show up in your inventory! We speak with Vivianne Draper about her work with Dark Eden designer Etain Peregrine and the new Dark Eden Plaza (http://slurl.com/secondlife/Indigo/161/184/504 ). Teleport into Indigo and you'll find the latest in fetish wear by Etain as well as sexy clothes by dana Archer of Creative Kaos. Pony girls will also want to stop in Alyssa Jessop's shop, Prancing Harlot for the latest pony gear. Craving a fur-trimmed cape any Cossack would envy? Visit Ookami Ringen for Zorena Deckard's Asian, Russian and Victorian designs with amazingly sophisticated primwork. Need some jewelry to dress up your look? Check out the unique designs of Ciphertazi Wandin at Red Queen. If you'd rather be tied up in realistic Japanese Shibari ropes, go to LaFel Elvehjem's Oubliette and try out the demos. But if you're in need of horns or tentacles (hey, who isn't?), be sure to pop by Charissa Korvin's Devil Made Me Do It. Grunge guys can't get enough of Cancer Manimal's boots and hip accessories. Finally, don't forget the Dark Eden Rogues' Gallery on the second floor for new designers! We can't forget to thank Etain and Vivianne for the Lilith boots that Vivianne dropped on us when we visited with her a couple of weeks ago! They usually retail for about $200L in the Dark Eden store. Also, we have to point out that the model in the picture above is Etain Peregrine herself! Now, get yourselves to Dark Eden Plaza for their big sale this weekend! If you don't, we'll use some of our new toys on you! SL Name: Etain Peregrine [Charissa Korvin is modeling Etain's design Erebus, above] Where from in RL: RL line of work: SL is my RL baby! Time in SL: um, Been on since late 2003, if that's what you are asking, also I am almost constantly on but not always on as Etainnnn.... How has your product evolved? This is something I have struggled with for a long time. What is the endgame for SL businesses? I'm hesitant to keep all my eggs in one basket in just SL. I am interested in expanding to other worlds like SL, the only problem being nothing is out yet that competes with it. However if there was I would be there in a heartbeat. I'm interested in getting into more and more scripting and offering more functionality with my products, and expanding into new markets and demographics. Where can people go to see and buy your work?
I have always admired Bare Rose, June is just a phenomenon. Lately her sculptie work and her textures have gone off the charts in quality. I also admire the girls at Curious and Deviant Kitties, Gritty Kitty, Sinistyle. I love the sort of grunge kitty look that a few designers are mastering.. I wish I could do it myself but its just not quite my style. A couple of hot japanese designers I always keep an eye on is Kru and Tohru. both their work is great but a little pricey for me. Old school when I was starting out I had a huge huge huge thing for Nomine and I still check her place at least once a week. Her old stuff still maintains its quality even against brand new releases and shes very affordable so new people coming in try out Nomine, its fantabulous. Do you consider anyone to be a major influence? Who would you like us to feature? Category: Featured Designer/Store -- posted at: 11:11 PM Comments[0] |
